How to transition from Summer to Fall

September 25, 2017

There's a word for the weather we're facing in India right now. No, it's not Summer or Autumn. It's called 'fickle'. I leave my house in warm clothes looking at the cloudy skies and by afternoon I'm close to a heatstroke.
So what to wear when you're confused whether to sport a pair of shorts or a chunky sweater?

Today, I'm jotting down 3 points that could help if you're looking to transition from the beach summer vibes to the autumnal feels. Also, if you're someone like me who can't tell the difference? Stick around.

1: Fabrics- The summer is usually associated with fabrics such as cotton and linen, while fall/ autumn requires you us to adorn slightly thicker fabrics like suede, denim or velvet. Now, it's a little too early to dress in a complete suede or corduroy ensemble, I agree. Cue entry, a union of both categories. Pair summer staples like some playful cotton pants with a lush velvet top, or a pair of denim shorts with a knit sweater. It's all about a harmonious amalgamation.

2: Lengths- Thanks to the well-received trends of summer '17, such as cold shoulders or the peek-a-boo sleeves, we've spent most of our time basking our shoulders in the sun. With the oncoming of fall, there is no need to shelve them just yet. Play up the lengths of your outfits such as:
an off-shoulder top with a pair of flared trousers.
a suede mini-skirt paired with a cropped denim jacket.
a go-to short summer dress with an over-sized cardigan.

3: Color- Probably the easiest (read cheapest) way to slip from summer and slide into fall is changing the color palette of our clothing. A union of signature summery colors like white, yellow and green can be partnered with autumn-classics like burgundy (I followed suit. Hehe), navy blues, neutral grays and an array of delectable browns.

Here's my version of an outfit when I'm still in denial that summer is almost over and yet loving the thought of tasting pumpkin spice lattes (a fall-signature drink at Starbucks).
Chose a pair of white sneakers because I'm a quirk-machine like that. Haha.

Write me your thoughts in the comments below and hope your transitioning of the seasons is smooth.
Thanks for reading!

Much love,
Sneha
