How to wear Denim on Denim

November 10, 2017

If there is one staple item in our wardrobes that have done the rounds consistently reinventing itself in our lives then it has to be the Denim. Whether they are in the form of our favorite skinny jeans or the classic denim jacket that we layer over practically everything when we're out of the office, they keep resurfacing year after year.
The last time the denim-on-denim trend was 'cool' was the 90's. With Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake sporting patchwork denim from head to toe at the American Music Awards in 2001, it plummeted downhill.
However, look who could not keep away and has returned! The denim on denims. At first it seemed slightly intimidating to me to sport so much of one type of fabric with the fear of it being overpowering. But, executed in the right way, everything is do-able. Unless its a repeat of the above-mentioned couple's ensemble. Then we're all doomed, once again. Haha.

So, for this look, I chose the high-waist flared jeans. The flare is very 90's fashion while the high-rise detail brings it up-to-date. In case you were wondering, the one I'm sporting is from Lulu and Sky.

Next ingredient in the mix is a striped top just to break-up the denim monotony and this one is from FabAlley.
Note: Like denim, stripes are always a` la mode.

The last and final attribute is the denim-pastel bomber jacket. Bomber jackets are one of the biggest trends this year with brands creating extensive variations of it. Whether they are printed like camouflage, staple polyester ones or dramatic embroidered alternatives, they are here to stay. I've opted for an oversized variant so that I can throw them on over a bodycon dress + slacks combination, well into the fall months too.

At times, runway trends seem pretty intimidating and we might banish them as unwearable because they do not seem like daily-wear at first glance. However, this is exactly where the magic begins. To sight a trend and to incorporate it into your personal style and sensibility, to call it your own, is what being Stylish is all about.
Hope you liked my version of the denim-on-denim trend and are inspired to create your variant of it. If there is a runway trend you would like me to transform into street-wear, do write to me about it in the comments below.

Thank you for reading.
Much love,
Sneha
